Allow plenty of time on the morning of the event:

Make sure you allow plenty of time to get to the event venue and to find a car park. Please leave enough time to get to event check-in, which is open from 7.00am and through numbering into transition. The more time you allow, the easier it will be. There will be lots of people and it will be very, very busy, so please be patient and listen to all instructions, which will come from our officials, volunteers and the event commentator.

Event parking:

There are local car parks close to the venue. Please obey local parking regulations and signs.

Select a meeting place at the venue as soon as you arrive:

This is the first thing you should do when you arrive at the Event Venue. It’s a good idea to make a meeting place with your parents. There will be lots of people there on the day and it will make it easier if you decide on a meeting place in advance that the whole family can go to if you do get separated and for when you finish the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon. There is a Meeting Point/Information tent where HELP TEAM volunteers will care for any lost kids. And it’s the best spot to find lost parents too!

What to do when you get there:

Head straight to the CHECK-IN tent (it’s easy to find with the big "Check In" flags!), where we check your details and give you your Arena swim cap. If you received your Event Kit via Australia Post and have your bib number and official T shirt you will be speedily scanned through. Otherwise go to “Manual Check In” counter and you will be entered there and receive any necessary items.

After CHECK-IN where do I go?

You will go through the NUMBERING area where HELP TEAM volunteers wearing red T-shirts will make sure you are numbered on the arm and leg. Please make sure that you don’t put sunscreen on your arms and legs until we have written on your numbers – otherwise they’ll rub straight off. Our Help Team will also answer questions, check you have everything you need and point you in the direction of TRANSITION.

What to take into transition checklist:

Make sure that only the equipment you need for your event is left at your bike; any sports bags should be handed to your parents. Please note that only one parent may accompany you to TRANSITION, but you can also do this alone in conjunction with our great Help Team.

Take everything that you will need for the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon into the Transition Area – this will include your:

  • Arena Swim Cap
  • Goggles
  • Official Weet-Bix  Kids TRYathlon T-shirt with Bib Number attached
  • Bike with your security sticker attached
  • Helmet with the security sticker attached
  • Runners / socks
  • Towel
  • Water Bottle (filled with water)
  • Any medication you think your parent/guardian thinks you may need use of during the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon (EG: Asthma puffer)

NB: keep your Arena Swim Cap and Goggles with you to take to the briefing and Swim Start.

After the bike is racked in Transition where do I go?

Once you have set your gear up in TRANSITION, please listen for official announcements calling age divisions into the GET READY/BRIEFING area. The 11-15 year old TRYathletes will be called in first followed by 11-15 year old teams, TRYathletes with a disability, 7-10 year old teams, the 7-8 year olds and finally the 9-10 year old TRYathletes. While you are waiting, enjoy the fun activities in the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon Village arena.

What happens in the Swim leg:

The swim leg will take place in the bay at adjacent to Catani Gardens. The water depth varies from shallow to approximately 2m. There will be lifeguards in the water with you, so it will be very safe.

In Transition:

Once kids get back to their bike they will put on their shoes, Official Shirt, shorts and helmet and then head into the ride. Again, there will be officials here to help them. When they return to Transition they will rack their bike, take off their helmet and head off for the Run.

Finally, the Run:

You will really enjoy this bit as kids complete the course and cross the finish line! Cheer the kids on and watch them enjoy getting their CHAMPIONS medal from one of our sporting hero ambassadors.

Events rules:

  • Your helmet must be on correctly, and done up securely before you touch your bike and you must rack your bike before undoing your helmet.
  • Take care on corners and slopes particularly if conditions are wet
  • Road closures are in place, keep left if not overtaking - remember that your bike course is like a normal road, and normal road rules apply
  • Your Official Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon T-shirt must be worn during the ride and run
  • Familiarise yourself with the course – and view the maps on  Information boards located in the the event arena
  • Do NOT move other participant’s bikes or gear in the transition area at anytime
  • Do up your shoelaces before you start to ride your bike!

After you receive your medal:

Enjoy a FREE Breakfast of Champions!
Go to the Weet-Bix Breakfast of Champions tent after you have received your medal where you will receive a FREE breakfast. It is better for participating kids to have this breakfast after they finish the course. You can then continue to enjoy all the fun activities in the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon Village arena.

Prize Draw!

The Event Day LUCKY PRIZE DRAW is done electronically after everyone has checked in. Please note there is no final stage presentation at the conclusion of the event to announce prize winners. Prize winners will be announced by the commentator throughout the day. If you are a winner and miss your name or are unable to collect your prize on the day, we will notify you by mail.  Everyone who registers before the closing date for each event will automatically go into the draw to win some fantastic prizes such as a TREK bike!

Collecting your bike and gear from Transition:

Official announcements will be made over the PA about when you can collect your bike from transition.

IMPORTANT: The transition area will be sectioned by the Event Course Director according to age divisions depending on field numbers e.g. 11-15 years, 7-8 years and 9-10 years. Transition age sections cannot be opened while children in that age division are still participating. This is for the safety and security of everyone on the day, especially those children still completing the course.

The Event Course Director will announce when the transition area for your age division is open and bikes can be removed. One adult ONLY may accompany you when picking up your bike from the transition area. Please listen to the commentator for instructions in making this easy. We have many bikes and children to clear the area so your patience will be appreciated.

Wet weather:

If it has rained or is raining, and the event can still be conducted safely, the event will go ahead – with possible course adjustments if required. However, if weather conditions before or on the day of the event make it unsafe for the event to proceed, and adjustments cannot be made to make it safe, the event will be cancelled. An event may be cancelled depending on the effect or likely effect of actual or forecast weather conditions.

Please note that the decision to cancel an event is not made lightly and safety is our priority when making this decision including the safety of the children.

Could the event be cancelled?

Yes. It is unlikely, but not impossible. If the event is cancelled before event day, every effort will be made to notify all participants. This will include email notification (to the email address provided when you register) and a notice on the website home page. We recommend you check both email and website before leaving for the event. Even if the weather and everything seems ok, unforeseen incidents may cause a cancellation pre event or on the day.

Please note that the decision to cancel an event is not made lightly and safety is our priority when making this decision including the safety of the children.
